Storing shoes properly
Especially in small apartments, the dream of a walk-in closet often cannot be fulfilled. But even in larger homes, shoes are often stored in the hallway or entrance area. To make this a thing of the past, here are HAILO's recommendations for stylish shoe storage and care.
The right care for your shoes
Storing your shoes is important, caring for them is more important. So before you pack your shoes away for storage, make sure you know how to care for them. First and foremost, shoes must be completely dry inside and out before they can be packed away. If they are not, the moisture can not only cause an unpleasant smell, but in the worst case also mold or stains. If you have a dry cellar or storage room, the shoes can also be stored there. Also avoid extreme temperatures. If you expose your shoes to excessive heat, materials such as leather will become brittle, warp and ultimately no longer fit. If it is too cold for the shoes, this can cause cracks. Shoes always feel most comfortable at room temperature.
To prevent cracks in the leather, clean your shoes regularly and treat the material with a special grease or beeswax. You can remove the insole and laces to clean your shoes. If the insole and laces are slightly soiled, a wash cycle is sufficient. If the damage is severe, both should be replaced.

HAILO recommendation for storing your shoes
Once your shoes are clean and dry, they are ready to be stored properly. Regardless of the type of shoes: choose a cool and dry place to store them. As already described, room temperature is ideal. Tip: Make sure that the air in the shoe cabinet can circulate well.
The shoe cabinet
The classic shoe cabinet is universally popular for shoe storage. With a closed door, the cabinet looks great in your hallway instead of creating shoe chaos. In addition, your shoes are neatly organized and clearly arranged. However, to prevent moisture from collecting in the shoe cupboard, it is important to air it regularly. If shoes are stored there for weeks or months, it is best to open the door for half an hour every 14 days to be on the safe side. It is also worth buying scented sachets to give your shoes a pleasant fragrance. This way, your wardrobe smells nice, is optimally ventilated and protects your shoes from dust. Depending on your requirements, the wardrobe can also complement your interior design.
